Shaw, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is the world's largest manufacturer of tufted broadloom carpet. Headquartered in Dalton, Georgia, Shaw sells broadloom carpet, carpet tile, rugs, ceramic tile, laminate flooring, and hardwood flooring for residential and commercial applications throughout the United States and exports to most markets worldwide.
Shaw began as Star Dye Company in 1946, a small business that dyed tufted scatter rugs. Through many changes over the years, 2001 brought a new chapter to the company with the completion of its sale to Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the holding company of renowned investor Warren E. Buffett. Berkshire Hathaway is known for buying and holding businesses that have a dominant market share, have strong management teams, and are considered undervalued in the stock market. With the move, Shaw ended its tenure as a public company.
Today, with the leadership of Vance Bell, CEO, and Randy Merritt, President, Shaw is a full-service flooring company with more than $5 billion in annual sales and over 31,000 employees.
